Nigerian music icon Davido (David Adeleke) has firmly rejected claims that he belongs to any political faction, stating that his personal relationship with Seyi Tinubu—son of President Bola Tinubu—does not silence him on national issues.

The controversy began when Davido posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging fellow entertainers to use their voices more actively against the rising tide of insecurity and economic hardship in the country. While many fans supported his message, critics quickly accused him of being hypocritical due to his wealthy connections. One user went as far as accusing him of performative activism inside a supposed "City Boys" political group chat.

Davido quickly shut down the rumors, replying that he belongs to no such group. He clarified that his bond with Seyi Tinubu is strictly a long-standing friendship, adding that he regularly uses their private conversations to voice complaints about the state of the nation.

Reminding critics of his track record, the singer pointed out the irony of the backlash, noting that he was previously attacked by the public for criticizing the Nigerian government during international media interviews.

The exchange comes at a time of heightened social commentary from top figures, including British-Nigerian rapper Skepta, who recently called for global attention to Nigeria's ongoing challenges. Meanwhile, Davido remains politically active on a personal level, having recently taken a break from music to support his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, under the Accord Party banner.
